BLINDSERIES

In 1976, SuZen was traveling in Southern France. One morning upon awakening, she noticed the light and shadows on the wall, which was coming through the venetians blinds. Upon leaving, she quickly took a few photographs of the blinds and shadows (for an example see French Blinds).

At the time - SuZen did not know that this was the beginning of many years of photographing blinds. The Blindseries went beyond photography. Creating 6 feet tall folding screens, SuZen began Integrating her art with performances in public spaces, such as the World Trade Center and the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport.

In 1984, the New State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) funded a 40' x 23' painted mural of her photograph, "Flowing Light", (see photo under "BLINDSERIES" on the first page). Her "Flowing Light" mural , can be viewed high on the west wall of 303 West 42nd Street across from the Port Authority in New York City.

Winter Blinds (1977), was taken at her sister's house in Westchester, NY. It began her exploration of using the mini blinds.

Shades of the Chrysler Building(1981) is a triptych showing the same scene of the Chrysler Building with and without blinds in and out of focus. This version is created as a "BLINDFOLD". It is only 4.5 inches height mounted on both sides of black linen. The original piece is 24" X 51". Each image is 24" x 17". Currently, this photograph is displayed in a group exhibition of Westbeth Women Photographers at Audart Gallery, 60 Broad Street in the Wall Street area of New York City.
